Actor Vikram Prabhu badly needs a hit after giving back-to-back box office flops. In order to achieve that, the filmmakers have played very safely in making his latest film Veera Sivaji, which is deeply formulaic. Vikram plays an ideal hero, with a heart of gold, nerves of steel and brains to spare. The problem is, this film may have worked 10 yeas ago, but today it doesn’t even have a shot at success.
The film opens with a crime as hundreds of people lose money to a conman, played by John Vijay, who nurtures the dream of becoming the chief minister of Tamil Nadu one day with the money he swindled from the public. One devastated and helpless victim of the scam fills the audience with the hope that the gods will send ‘the one’, who will make the bad people pay for their sins. Cut to the next scene, Sivaji is introduced engaging baddies in a fistfight to save a damsel in distress. From there, director Ganesh Vinayak attempts to entertain the audience by singing the praises of the hero.
